On June 14, 2011, District Council 37 of AFSCME organized a large "fightback rally" at City Hall, protesting Mayor Bloomberg's plans for layoffs and service cuts in the face of a budget surplus and the unwillingness of the mayor to consider raising taxes on the wealthy. Despite a steady rain, about 10,000 turned out including OSA Chair Bob Croghan, who was introduced to the crowd, along with other labor leaders. OSA executive board members Ron Lehman and Dolores Parson, along with staff member Steven Gewirtz, were among those attending the rally.
