OSA Newsline - May 27, 2024

The OSA Newsline is now in its summer phase, meaning updates will be made bi-weekly instead of the usual weekly schedule. Members are always welcome to call the union office for information or with any questions.

Last week, the union held a well attended chapter meeting at the Administration For Children's Services. See the photo to the left.

This week, the union will host a chapter meeting at Kings County Hospital on Tuesday, May 28th.

In recent news, the Appellate Division of New York State Supreme Court upheld a ruling issued last year that permanently blocked Mayor Adams' administration from enacting its Medicare Advantage plan. The court found that the mayor's attempt to strip city retirees of their current access to a subsidized traditional Medicare plan violates local administrative law. The administration is expected to file papers with the State Court of Appeals to intervene in the long-running effort to make Advantage, a privatized version of traditional Medicare, the only city-subsidized health insurance plan available to Medicare-eligible municipal retirees.

Finally, one more late-breaking bit of news. DCAS has cancelled the Staff Analyst Trainee exam that had been tentatively set to be open for filing this June. DCAS has informed the union that a sufficient number of candidates on last year's "Bridge Exam" elected to take the SAT exam and a second title-specific exam is no longer necessary.
