OSA Newsline - June 24, 2024

This past spring, the Municipal Labor Committee initiated a discussion regarding an increase in the optional drug rider costs, without disclosing any details. Last week, the details became clear: a substantial increase is expected for the HIP/HMO "Standard" drug plan's optional rider, and a significant increase for the HIP/HMO "Grandfathered" drug plan's optional rider. Both increases are set to be implemented this July. This news shocked the OSA leadership, and the union has already started the process of appealing to the MLC Steering Committee to delay these increases. Further updates will appear in this Newsline as soon as we receive them.

To OSA members working at NYC Health + Hospitals who are still waiting to receive the full value of all retroactive wage increases, including those under both the OSA Contract and the Managerial Pay Order, please know that the latest update from Health + Hospitals is that these 'manual' salary adjustments should be fully implemented and resolved by the end of August. We will continue to monitor the situation until every member has received the money they are owed.

The union will be counting ballots for the ratification of the contract between OSA and the New York City Transit Authority on June 24. If the new contract is ratified by the membership, the next step is to receive approval by the Transit Board at their July 31 meeting.

OSA will be hosting a chapter meeting at the NYC Parks Department on Tuesday, June 25. As per usual, there will be two sessions: the first from 12-1 pm and the second from 1-2 pm. These sessions will feature presentations from union staff, a Q&A segment, and lunch for in-person attendees.

Also on Tuesday evening, June 25th, we will be holding a general membership meeting on Zoom. An email invitation was sent last week to dues paying members and retirees, along with the agenda for Tuesday's meeting and the minutes of the last general membership meeting held in April.

The union office will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday!

OSA Newsline - June 10, 2024

Please note that the OSA Newsline is now on its summer schedule, with updates provided bi-weekly instead of weekly. For any information or questions between updates, members are encouraged to call the union office.

We are pleased to announce that OSA has reached a tentative agreement with the Transit Authority for the 2021-2026 round of bargaining. This proposed contract includes several key improvements and benefits for our NYCTA members. A copy of the agreement, along with ratification ballots, has been mailed to all NYC TA members. Please review the agreement and cast your vote. Ballots must be postmarked no later than June 19th to be counted.

On Tuesday, June 11th, the OSA organizing team will meet with employees of the Health and Hospitals Corporation serving in the title of Assistant Director (Central Office). This group includes staff working within Enterprise IT, Central Office, and Correctional Services. We look forward to discussing the benefits of joining our union with this interested group.

On Thursday, June 13th, OSA will host a chapter meeting for members working for MetroPlus Health within NYC Health + Hospitals. The first session will run from 12-1 pm, and the second from 1-2 pm. Members should have already received an email with details on how to join, either in person or via Zoom. OSA staff representatives will attend to discuss current topics, and the meeting will include a presentation, a Q&A session, and lunch for those attending in person.

On Monday, June 17th, OSA will return to the bargaining table on behalf of our members working for the New York City Police Department within the School Security and Traffic Enforcement units. The team is diligently negotiating a new contract for these valued members. For updates after the June 17th session, please contact your delegates or the union office directly.

The union will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.

On June 25th, OSA will host a chapter meeting for members working at the NYC Parks Department. As with recent chapter meetings, there will be two sessions: from 12-1 pm and from 1-2 pm, including presentations from union staff, a Q&A, and lunch for those attending in person.

Also on June 25th, the union has scheduled the next General Membership meeting at 6pm with the final item on the agenda being a presentation by NYC Employees Retirement System staffers on the ins-and-outs of the Tier 4 and Tier 6 pensions for new hires and existing employees. Keep an eye out for an email with information on how to register to join.

Finally, a mailing is due out soon and is already posted on this website as the June 2024 OSA Newsletter.
