Early voting is going on for the party primary elections. Our union leadership is voting for Jumaane Williams as the Democratic Candidate for Governor.

Jumaane Williams is the New York City Public Advocate and he is the first person ever to hold that office who has chosen to consent to his office staff’s desire to form a union. This is a rare act of courage by a public official and has earned our recognition and approval.

We do have some other good news. Our uniformed forces within the Police Department are moving toward a vote upon their proposed contract.

And that, in a relatively quiet summer period is all the news for now. Check back in two weeks for the next update.

Ukraine still lives.

First, congratulations on your new holiday. Mayor Adams has made it official. Juneteenth is now a City holiday. June 19th, this year, falls on a Sunday and will be celebrated with a day off from work on Monday, June 20th.

Then, some less wonderful news. The Civil Service Employees Association, our State employee brothers and sisters are voting on a five year labor contract. The contract starts in 2021 and goes to 2026. Raises proposed are 2%, 2%, 3%, 3% and 3%. A year ago, those numbers would have looked good, but with the current inflation, not so good.

Returning to the positive, a warning was issued two weeks back about a potential increase in GHI Drug Rider costs. In response, a number of unions whose members or retirees would be affected are coming together to oppose the proposed increase. Check back in two weeks for the next update.
