Ballots are in the mail to our members in the Transit Authority seeking approval of our just-concluded agreement for the period 2017-2021. Thank you to our TA members for their support and patience in a bargaining round complicated by some unexpected delays on the part of the Transit Authority. When you receive the ballot, please vote immediately. They must be postmarked no later than May 5th.

Our union now represents a new title at New York City Health + Hospitals. The Infection Control Preventionists will be joining the OSA Welfare Fund as of May 1st. If you are in this title and have not been in touch with the union, please give the OSA office a call at 212-686-1229 and ask to speak with Maria Perez. Your contact information will help us to better serve you.

We hope to be closing out our Transit Authority negotiations before May 8th. Of course, once we do, we have to request to begin the next round immediately.

Speaking of the next round, Adam Orgel reports that he will be starting our union talks on Monday, May 8th. This is good news since we were worried about when the City would decide to meet with us.

Negotiations are a sort of ritual dance, normally, and we go first. We will submit demands and the City will promise to examine our demands and to respond to us as soon as possible. And so, it starts.

OSA Executive Director Sheila Gorsky is looking for a few good teachers. We are preparing for the upcoming Analyst exam training classes.

The areas where there are vacancies are Contract and Budget Analysis, Program Analysis, Evaluations, Organizational Analysis and Writing.

If you feel you could teach one or more of these subjects, call Sheila at the union office at 212-686-1229.

The Civil Service Chief this week reports on the success of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association winning a favorable decision from Comptroller Brad Lander.

Their prevailing rate dispute with the City goes back 13 years. The recent recommendation would increase salaries by anywhere from 40% to 90%, depending on the title. It is a nice victory.

Finally, on April 12th, our Retirees organization will present representatives from Aetna who will explain the new program set for September 1st. There will be an extensive period allowed for questions and answers.

Our virtual membership meeting, held last Thursday, had over 400 attending. Retirees were informed about the scheduled April meeting of the Retirees Club (OSARC). At that meeting, representatives from Aetna will answer all questions about the coming Medicare Advantage program.

Thereafter, Adam Orgel led a discussion on contract negotiations and Rob Spencer reported on the upcoming Staff Analyst exams.

The meeting went well, covering a lot of information and still ended promptly at 8pm.
