Time To Vote In The Presidential Primary

This year’s presidential election battle has been heated – to say the least. It’s an important election.

This coming Tuesday, April 19th, is presidential primary day in New York State. If you are a registered voter and have enrolled in a political party, you are entitled to cast your vote for your party’s nominee for president.

In a closed primary system like New York’s, those registered as independents who did not select a political party on registration may not vote in any primary. Check your registration and locate your polling place by visiting the New York State Board of Elections’ website at this link:

Two other primaries later this year will determine party candidates for congressional seats (June 28th), and the state legislature (September 13th). The general election itself will take place on November 8, 2016.

The union encourages you to take part in the political process. As public sector workers and union members, we are under attack constantly by those who claim our pay is too high, our pensions too lush and our jobs should be privatized. One of the ways to fight back is through political engagement. We encourage you to assess which candidate in your party best reflects the interests of American workers.
